Cozy Corners
If you know anything about me, you know that I value comfort, homeyness, and making people feel welcome and warm. I’m not in the season of owning my own home yet, but I can imagine the day that I finally do, I’m going to try and make it the coziest it can be so that even if a total stranger visits, they will feel like they’re right at home!
My mind is being pulled to my grandma’s house because there are few places where I feel more at home than there. It’s the familiarity, smells, memories between those walls that never fails to welcome me back.
Now, it’s almost a given that your grandma’s house, or you childhood home you grew up in would be cozy, but how do you achieve that in a brand new home you just purchased or that was just built? Is it just a thing that comes naturally, or does it have to be created and curated?
Although I’m not in my home-owning era yet, I am moving into an apartment in the fall. I desire anywhere I live to be the place where anyone is welcome and comfortable and feels loved on. And yes, a lot of that has to do with the people within the home, but in my opinion, the pieces and decor you choose to decorate your home in also has much to do with it as well.
It’s such a fun process to have a blank canvas and reinvent the space into something beautiful and cozy. The “not so fun” part of this is finding pieces that compliment each other perfectly, filling the space without making it look cluttered, AND trying to stay within budget.
If that sounds a little overwhelming to you, believe me, we’re in the same boat!
It may take time to perfect that cozy corner in your home, and that’s okay!!
Below are some cozy corners of our own in the shop!! Use these photos as inspiration in your own home!
Here’s a few tips that might make it a little bit easier the next time you’re trying to fill a space:
Stay mostly neutral with pops of color
Try to add some greenery or some type of plant
Choose classy, timeless pieces that you won’t have to replace often
Add a lamp, or some sort of soft light
More doesn’t always mean better!
It took me basically all summer, but I finally found the perfect pieces to make my apartment cozy, modern, and just how I like it!!
It might take time, but don’t all good things take time?!
God bless,
Leah Alexander
